Communicating with your child

Some children in PICU find it difficult to speak. This is often an issue if they have a breathing tube or a mask.

To make it less frustrating for your child we can use gestures, pictures, or devices to help. Speech therapists will also work on helping your child to communicate their needs.

Play

It is still important for children to play and have fun when they are feeling well enough. Professionals in play and music therapy work on PICU. These professionals will meet your child to find out what activities they enjoy. They will bring resources for your child. This may help your child at times when they feel sad or worried.
