Urinary catheter

Urinary catheter

Patients in ICU are often too sick to go to the toilet to pass urine. Because of this, a tube is used to drain urine from the bladder. The tube is called a “urinary catheter”.

The tube goes through the passage where urine normally drains out from the bladder. The tube is then connected to a bag that hangs on the side of the bed. Urine is measured and helps medical staff know how hydrated a patient is.
